Glock’s Gen 4 pistols debuted at the 2010 shot show, representing the brand’s next step in refinement. The update was driven largely by improvements to how the pistol fits and feels in-hand, along with changes to the recoil spring system. When Glock first introduced the new generation, the spotlight was on the full-size Glock 17 in 9×19 mm Parabellum and the Glock 22 in .40 S&W. Visually, the pistols were shown with a more defined textured frame, grip checkering, and swap-in backstraps to suit different hand sizes. Glock also marked the slides with “Gen 4” next to the model name/number to clearly identify the generation.
